Summer in Monroe, Washington is meant to be spent outside. However, if your outside living space is less than ideal, it may discourage you from using it and keep you from enjoying all that your outdoor space has to offer. Here are some simple ways you can improve your outdoor living space and bring it to life this summer.
Add plants. Potted plants bring color and life to any space, especially outdoors. Plant something vibrant and fragrant to bring both color and aroma to your space. Another great option is to plant herbs that can be used with cooking and outdoor dining. If you don’t have a green thumb, or don’t want to worry about keeping plants alive, go faux. So many faux plants that are available today look real, and will still improve the aesthetic of your space.
Add a water feature. Water is soothing, healing, and calming. The sound of trickling water will bring a Zen to your space that it is probably missing. From large fountains to small table pieces you can be sure to find a feature that fits your space and budget. Just try searching ‘small water features and you will be amazed at how many options there are.
Create a comfy seating area. Hammocks, porch swings, patio sets, and hanging chairs are all great options to create an inviting seating area that makes you want to relax there all day. Find what fits your space and your needs. To make seating even more appealing and comfortable, create texture by adding throw pillows, blankets, and rugs – which will easily and instantly dress up your space and create a comfortable area.
Install ambient lighting. Garden lanterns, candlelit sconces, tea lights, and solar garden lights can all create a lovely glow in your space. It is amazing how big of an impact lighting will have on your space, and you don’t even need an electrician to add these elements.
Bring in a fire pit. There is something mesmerizing and enticing about the dancing and crackling flames of a fire. Add some marshmallows and hot dogs and you have the perfect summer night. Not a fan of the smoke smell? No problem! There are tons of gas fire pits out there that give you all the benefits of a fire without the smoke. Fires can also help keep you warm on those chilly nights so you can enjoy your outdoor space even longer.
Create shade. Pergolas, gazebos, and patio umbrellas are great ways to bring in some shade to your space. Not only are they all aesthetically pleasing, but they also provide much-needed protection from UV rays and relief from the heat.
